SWAN LAKE

| 2021 | ADVANCED SCENIC DESIGN III | MFA COURSEWORK|

Swan Lake deals with the corruption of innocence, hope versus despair, and the options one has when dealing with trauma. A classic tale that is still relevant today; this production aims to lure the audience into its clutches with the temptation of the modern extravagance along with the mystery of the forest oozing with oppression by the villainous Rothbart. Just as the ballet dives into the polarities of truth and deceit, light and dark, Odette and Odile, the design aims to contrast the artificial façade of wealth, power, and royalty, to the treacherous realm of corrupted nature. We watch as the two worlds collide, and the young, innocent Odette fights back against Rothbart for her fellow swans, Siegfried, and herself: giving hope in an ever-dark world.
